Private and Agency Adoptions- Step-parent and Foster Care, Syracuse, New York, Attorney
Adoptions may take place in Family Court or Surrogate's Court depending upon the County in which the adoption takes place.
An adoption is usually filed in the County in which the adoptive parents and child reside and may involve a private or agency adoption. An adoption may be undertaken by a couple unable to have children, a stepparent, grandparent, sibling, foster parent or another adult.
Contact a lawyer at the law offices of Elisabeth A. Barker, Attorney at Law, to schedule a consultation regarding any type of adoption.
Interstate Adoptions
The process for an interstate adoption is different from that of a child being adopted by individuals residing in the same state as the child. In an interstate adoption, both states' law must be complied with. The process is initiated in the "sending state," the state in which the child lives, and is finalized in the "receiving state," the state to which the child is being sent to live with the adoptive parents.
Ms. Barker is experienced and prepared to help you through all phases of the adoption that you wish to have formalized. Through adoption, your adopted child will acquire all the same rights that natural born children would. He or she will essentially be grafted into your family tree forever, legally speaking.
